Boating

The Breede River is one of the longest navigable rivers in South Africa. You are able to cruise for about 30 km to the river mouth and about 10 km upstream. You can hire a Houseboat and spend the night on the water.. The river is tidal for 55 km upstream from the mouth and there are a few sandbanks to keep in consideration when navigating the boats.

This part of the river is renowned as the best place to practice any watersport: swimming,  water skiing, wake boarding, canoeing, kayaking... Amateurs and professionals come every year to enjoy this unique part of the river.

 

Fishing

With a tidal action that reaches upto 60km upstream the Breede river is recognized as one of the best fishing estuaries in South Africa with an extraordinary abundance and diversity of fish and wildlife. 

It is a remarkably prolific fisherman’s paradise which boasts a history of record catches of Spotted Grunter, Leervis, Cob and White Steenbras.

The Breede River is a birder’s paradise where can be explored a amazing variety of birds in mountain, coastal, river and estuarine habitats. Over 200 species have been identified in the area from the majestic Fish Eagle, the Osprey, Fish Owl, Kingfisher, Oyster Catcher, the National Bird the Blue Crane, and so much more! 

 

Hiking &

Biking

Enjoy the river bank or the hills of the Breede Riverine.

The coastal vilages and surrounding nature reserves also offers a number of trails along the seashore or through fynbos-clad heaths.  Walk through farm lands, sheep paddocks, along the river’s edge and the sea, across soft sand and dunes with the possible encounter with Cape mountain zebra, eland, bontebok, baboon or ostrich. 

 

Whale

WATCHING

Exceptional whale watching (May - November) where the highest concentration of Southern Right Whales in the Southern Hemisphere, migrate to breed.

The 2 costal vilIlages Witsand and Infanta, at the Breede river mouth and the breathtaking De Hoop Nature reserve (only 30km away) are considered as The Whale Nursery of Southern Africa.

Kite surf

Only 30km away, where the Breede River meets the Indian Ocean, the little village of Witsand has become an amazing and uncrowned location for Kite surfing.

Kite surfing in Witsand is rated as the top uncrowned kite surfing destinations in South Africa. The onshore South Easter is the prevailing wind that blows in from the ocean during the summer. The river is mostly flat on the near side and you can ride very close to the edge of the river. The Westerly wind is also ride-able during the winter months.

So much you can do from the private jetty: fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking and all kind of water sports, etc...

Make sure to bring all your toys for these activities or ask us for more information if you don't have any.

For the sporty ones there is the river, swiming pool, petanque, volley ball, etc...Or you can chill in the sun rooms, by the pool, in our hammocks, in the garden... there are many places dedicated to doing "nothing"!

You can do anything you want  in this cosy house: relaxing by the fire, watching movies or sport games on the large screen TV, playing board games, pool table, table tennis, foos ball, darts or spend your time cooking in the open plan kitchen or drinking with your friends in the bar overlooking the river...
